About the event
It is possible to gain insight into Pope Leo XIV’s Papacy by studying and understanding the writings of Pope Leo XIII. When explaining his name choice, Pope Leo XIV said there were many reasons for his choice, but cited Pope Leo XIII's historical encyclical Rerum Novarum as the main one.
In the 1892 Encyclical: Rerum Novarum, Pope Leo XIII addresses the social and economic issues arising from industrialization. It advocates for the rights and dignity of workers, emphasizing fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to form unions.
The encyclical also affirms the importance of private property, the role of the state in promoting justice, and the need for collaboration between workers and employers. It critiques both socialism and unrestrained capitalism, proposing a "third way" that prioritizes the common good and human dignity.
Please join Fr. Howard for this informative 2-Part series on Rerum Novarum.
